“ARC - The Performance Platform of the LEED Rating System” was the topic with which the gefma Lounge Bayern-Nürnberg started its 2024 program. Kay Killmann, Managing Director of GBCI Europe, also presented the tool live in use and using specific project examples. The ARC platform collects and structures building data - in a holistic manner comparable to LEED - in the categories of energy, water, waste, mobility, interior quality and user satisfaction. At least in the energy and water categories, monthly consumption data must be entered in order to use ARC. In the “waste management” category, annual data entry is sufficient, while an annual survey must be carried out for the topics of mobility and user satisfaction, which can also be expanded with additional questions from the REM or the FM organization.

For many participants, the information that the ARC platform can be used independently of the LEED certification system and almost completely free of charge was new. Facility managers, corporate real estate, asset, property and portfolio managers use Arc to monitor building data from portfolios of different sizes up to several thousand assets not only for internal and external benchmarking using a score card of up to 100 points. In addition, the values can also be displayed in CO2 emissions, making the ARC platform suitable for ESG reporting, climate risk analyses and ESG risk assessments. The connection to globally recognized evaluation and benchmarking systems, such as GRESB, GRI and PRI, make ARC a management tool for the further development of the entire corporate organization. This results in a positive interaction between corporate ESG and green building. ARC also maps the requirements of the EU taxonomy and the CRREM path is also stored.

“We want to drive and improve the market with ARC and LEED by creating transparency and clarity for investors, sellers and operators with ambitious criteria and comparable data,” summarized Kay Killmann as the European representative of the USGBC, the world's largest green building certification organization. Sebastian Hölzlein, Managing Director of Alpha IC GmbH and Head of the gefma Lounge Bayern-Nürnberg, described driving this transformation of the market and finding and presenting suitable solutions as the aim of the event and thanked Kay Killmann for his clear presentation on and with the ARC platform.

Outlook and invitation to the 2nd gefma Lounge Bavaria-Nuremberg on 03.06.2024 in hybrid format

Europe wants to be climate-neutral by 2055, Germany wants to achieve this goal by 2045 and Bavaria by 2040. In 2019, the city council of Nuremberg decided to implement this plan for its own city administration by 2035. Against this background, “Guidelines for energy-efficient, economical and sustainable construction and refurbishment in building construction measures in the city of Nuremberg” were developed, which in principle define a passive house standard for new buildings and refurbishments of public non-residential buildings.

Eva Anlauft, Head of the Central Tasks Department in the Building Construction Office of the City of Nuremberg, will report on these energy standards, practical examples and experiences in implementation on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the Energy Campus Nuremberg. The presentation entitled "Ambitious energy standards to achieve climate neutrality for the municipal buildings of the City of Nuremberg ” will be supplemented by the operational perspective of Paul Horn, Technical Director of Facility Management at WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH. What have the corresponding guidelines achieved in terms of energy optimization and operating cost development? Were the structural and technical framework conditions set sufficiently efficient? What obstacles were there and what solutions were developed? Following the presentations and discussion, participants will have the opportunity to meet in person and network over a light snack.
