Sustainability workshop in new and existing buildings. Workshop in hybrid format: theory and practice of holistic building design on 28.09.2023

The devastating flood disaster in the night of 14/15.07.2021 has led to an unimaginable destruction of the existing infrastructure in the entire Ahr valley. For example, the district of Ahrweiler has managed over 1 million tons of waste, especially construction waste, to date. The reconstruction of destroyed buildings but also the planning for a multitude of new buildings is in full swing and will take many years. Especially municipal decision makers have to make many fundamental investment decisions for existing buildings as well as for new construction projects. 

The planned workshop serves as an exchange of experiences and as an impulse for the further development of sustainable topics in the building sector. For example, the workshop will address the question of what can be the motivation for sustainable construction and operation from ecological, economic and social aspects. In addition, certification systems such as those according to the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) will be presented with the aim of understanding and applying such instruments correctly in principle, but also to reach the goal without certification.

The topic is rounded off by illustrative practical examples of resource efficiency and circular building. In a "fast block", various kaleidoscope-like buildings are first presented with cross-references to the Netherlands and France. Finally, several key projects from Rhineland-Palatinate will be used to very clearly present the complete spectrum and state of the art of circular building. There is the possibility to participate in presence at the Umweltlernschule+ or online via Webex.
