Less is more: space for ideas, values, and change
Platz der Menschenrechte 1, Bamberg: Since February 2025, this has been the location of the new headquarters of Alpha IC GmbH, RESI – and the address is more than just a location. It is a statement.
A building that makes a statement
RESI is a low-tech building that does not use active heating and cooling systems. This is made possible by a holistic energy concept, robust architecture, and clever ventilation technology with a high heat recovery rate. At the same time, high standards of resource conservation and sustainability have been implemented. The usage concept itself is also innovative: RESI is designed as a community building – with a gross rental concept that creates space for encounters. While the second floor is rented out, Alpha IC and Serthoro GmbH have found a new home on the first floor and ground floor. In addition, a public café with an open space on the square side is planned for the future, inviting visitors to linger.
Working environments with substance
The design of the office space is based on a two-year process: usage requirements analysis, change management, participatory workshops. The result is an activity-based working concept with 33 workstations in accordance with ArbStättV (German workplace regulations), as well as numerous other work and collaboration options and flexible zones – from social hubs and focus areas to workshop spaces. The idea behind activity-based working is to design suitable spaces for different activities: in addition to the classic bookable workstations, there is a focus space for concentrated work, collaboration and creative areas for workshop work with colleagues, and a social hub for breaks or joint after-work events. Around 20% of the space is shared with the tenant on the second floor, such as meeting rooms, bicycle storage, and showers.
RESI represents both a departure and a new beginning: a move away from unsatisfactory office structures that hinder our collaboration, toward a working environment that is specifically tailored to Alpha's needs. Thanks to the opportunity to design something entirely new rather than having to fit into something existing, we were able to create a building that embodies all of our values and ideas. RESI is as much an investment in our social and economic future as it is an emotional anchor and social glue for the entire company.
Acoustics that think for themselves
Acoustics are often an underestimated factor. At RESI, they were taken into account from the outset through zoning, acoustic panels, plants, and the careful selection of materials. An in-house acoustic engineer was involved in the planning process, and simulations ensured that decisions were well-founded. The result: a quiet, focused working atmosphere without compromise.
Responsible choice of suppliers and materials
Sustainability is evident in every detail at RESI. The interior design focuses on regionality and durability:
- Selection of sustainable products, such as carpet tiles from Interface with 93% recycled content and CO2-optimized production
- Suppliers and service providers, where possible from the region and with a sustainable product range, such as lighting from the local family business RZB Leuchten or the elevator from Schmitt + Sohn Aufzüge, Nuremberg
- Reused furniture from the previous office, some of which dates back to the company's founding days
- Consciously mobile and flexible furnishings that allow for different usage scenarios
A place of encounter
RESI is open—both spatially and culturally. Indoor graffiti commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall, while events and guided tours bring the building to life. The building's performance is scientifically monitored in collaboration with the Technical University of Nuremberg. RESI is a real-world laboratory, a neighborhood player, and an expression of a commitment to the common good.
Architecture follows attitude
RESI demonstrates how architecture, sustainability, and corporate culture can work together. With 75% recycled materials, a net-zero energy concept, and a focus on the essentials, it is not just a building, but a catalyst for sustainable construction and a new culture of building. RESI lives up to its name: Responsibility, Excellence, Sustainability, and Inspiration are the order of the day here.
